New 2016 Ram 1500 at Kernersville Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram for Kernersville, NC

What a dependable and strong truck the 2016 Ram 1500 is! Heavily used by the builders of this world for many years, the 1500 is a coil-based rear suspension truck used for towing, hauling and everything else they have been able to throw at it. For 2016, an upgraded standard center console appears in the 2016 Ram 1500, which has a tablet mount built-in and improved connectivity. There are several new color and trim variations of the Sport, and LED cargo-box lights exist and are truly helpful if the truck bed is covered. Several new variations of the Sport offer a choice of vibrant exterior paint hues and minor trim modifications.  And, yes, available (on certain truckbed lengths) are the weatherproof "Rambox" bed compartments, doing double duty as either storage or icy drink holders!

Under the 1500's Hood

The 2016 Ram 1500's base engine is a 3.6-liter gasoline V6 generating 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. The transmission is an eight-speed automatic, manipulated by an easy-to-get-used-to rotary knob on the instrument panel. The other popular engine is the 5.7-liter V8 with 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque, and has a 6-speed transmission unless the 8-speed is opted for, on compatible models. Optional on all trims except the Sport, the Express, and the Rebel is the "EcoDiesel," a turbocharged 3.0-liter diesel V6 that gets 240 hp and has 420 lb-ft of torque (with eight-speed automatic only). A rear-wheel-drive layout is standard, but there are two available 4WD arrangements that include a two-speed transfer case with low-range gearing. Towing maximums vary between 7,000 pounds and just over 10,640 pounds (configuration dependent), and the maximum payloads for all 3 engines clears just over 1500 pounds each.

Design of Ram 1500

The 2016 Ram 1500 is a full-size pickup available in numerous body configurations. The regular cab seats three and is available with either a 6-foot-4-inch or 8-foot cargo bed. The extended cab is called a "Quad Cab" and can seat up to six. The crew cab increases rear-seat legroom and is available with either a short or medium bed. There are 11 trim levels with a lot of inherent value. There is so much to choose from here with the contractor-focused Tradesman, the 20-inch wheeled Express, the HFE (high fuel economy), the well-known SLT and Big Horn models, the Sport with its power-adjustable pedals, the popular Laramie and its cousin the Laramie Longhorn, the Limited which adds a self-leveling air suspension, and lastly, the 2 off-roading centered trims: the Outdoorsman and the Rebel. All trims add a base of capability and style for Ram drivers, that they can build on to suit their needs with packages afterwards. The Ram 1500's cabin has excellent materials that are a good balance of rugged and refined. The front seats are very comfortable, and the backseats have that important seatback angle set just right. Plus, it has lots of storage possibilities, including waterproof ones in the back floor. Two touchscreen interfaces are available, and they do a deft job of directing tasks and connectivity. One is 5 inches and above average already but since this is becoming so important these days why not go for the 8.4 inch one?

Can the Ram 1500 be more fuel efficient?

The 2WD 2016 Ram 1500 beats all other full-size pickups with its exclusive 3.0-liter HFE EcoDiesel V-6 engine at 29 mpg on the highway and 21 mpg in the city!

How does the 2016 Ram 1500's strongest engine do?

The 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 with variable-valve timing (VVT) gets 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque, plus can tow up to 10,640 pounds!

How many passengers can the truck fit?

Depending on cab choice, starts from three and goes up to six passengers maximum.

Conclusions

Standard safety features include four-wheel antilock disc brakes, trailer-sway control, stability control, hill-start assist, front-seat side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags. A fully integrated trailer-brake controller is available, as are a rearview camera and front and rear parking sensors. On the 2016 Ram 1500, tire blockers are integrated with the frame rails to protect the interior passengers, as well as reinforced A-pillars and door sills. Available 'Uconnect Access' can one-touch call 911 operators and also provide stolen vehicle tracking. Regardless of cab length, in government crash testing, the Ram 1500 rated five (out of a possible five) stars for side crash protection. All in all, a great vehicle for working out of and getting things done, the only potential issue will be getting out of helping your friends move!
