Used Ford F-150
Being one of the best selling trucks to date and gaining the title of best in class for towing capacity, it's no wonder why the Ford F-150 is one of the best. And for 2013, integrating technology that'stop of the line in addition to a variety of engine choices that provide better fuel economy and performance than previous versions, the F-150 continues to prove its value.
Used Ram 1500
If there was one truck that could take on anything, even the Ford F-150, it would have to be the Ram 1500. While the Ram might not be able to match what the F-150 can put out for towing capacity, it makes up for it by still being a work horse and also gaining the best in class for fuel efficiency. In addition to this, the 2013 Ram 1500 is fully updated with new mechanic gear and other cabin features that are robust with the latest tech, the 1500 is a worthy candidate to compete against the F-150.
Truck Power and Handling
With a variety of engines available, the Ford 150 is able to provide the power that drivers would expect from this reliable truck. As base, the F-150 offers 3.7 liter, 302 horsepower V6 engine for the casual truck driver that still wants some descent towing ability. The top of the line engine, however, gets drivers a 6.2 liter,411 horsepower V8 engine which is how it can obtain the best in class title for towing. This of course is dependent of how the truck is outfitted. With a six speed transmission for all of its trims, the Ford F-150 delivers performance and power for those who need it.
While the six speed transmission helps the F-150 with gas mileage, the Ram 1500 goes even further by introducing an eight speed automatic transmission. By adding this transmission alone helps significantly with performance and is a key factor for the Ram obtaining its best in class title when paired with its base V6, 3.6 liter engine. Pumping out 269 pound feet of torque and 305 horsepower, the Ram 1500 provides significantly more power compared to it's previous version which was about 100 horsepower less. This engine alone provides the power, performance and then some to everyone while delivering a 25 mpg rating that no other truck on the market can beat. For anyone looking to do a bit more damage on the towing end of things, they can opt in for top of the line 5.7 liter, V8 engine that puts out 395 horsepower.
Pickup Truck Design
When it comes to design, there isn't too much that stands out from either truck. But where the Ram 1500 will pull out a bit further than the F-150 is it's attention to detail. Making slight improvements to the front to help reduce drag make itmore aerodynamically sound, the Ram 1500 is able to do so while still maintaining its iconic look that have always appealed to fans. Moving to the interior, the two start to go in different directions when it comes to their comfortable cabins.
With a great offering of tech, style and comfort, the Ford F-150 is just a bit shy when it comes to matching the quality and sleek look that the Ram 1500 is able to provide. With premium materials for 2013, the Ram is a bit savvier and when connected to Chrysler's Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system, it can provide much more functionality such as serving as a WiFi hotspot. With its style and tech offerings, the Ram definitely provides slightly more value than the Ford F-150.
Conclusions
Overall, a truck lover can't go wrong with either truck. Where the F-150 succeeds in towing, the 1500 is close behind. But when it comes to fuel economy, the Fords F-150 six speed transmission is no match for the Ram's revamped base engine that's paired with their new eight speed transmission.
Ultimately the decision may be a simple one when it comes to towing capacity, as the F-150 is able to tow a max load of 11,300 pounds. But if that seems like a bit much for drivers, than the Ram 1500 is going to be a better choice which delivers all around great performance, power and value packed options that will make any driver content.
